The definition of ‘Pop’, ‘Popular’, ‘Culture’ and ‘Pop(Popular) Culture’

Generally, the ‘Pop‘ is originally written from the abbreviation of the ‘Popular‘.

During 1960s, the comics, commercial designs, movie stills and television had been influenced by the semi-artistic-oriented by dissident young artists. These subjects had made a theme of mass media images for popular culture in New York at that time. This was sort of American avant-garde art.

The terms of ‘Culture‘ is derived from the translation of ‘cultura’ in Latin. Its original means the cultivation or cultivated, but it became different means as relating to a particular society and its ideas, customs and art later.

The ‘Pop Culture’ is shortened from the popular culture. The popular culture, which is the feature of the modern industrialized society, is a name for a new approach towards the trend of popular art media such as advertisement, industrial design, photography and film rather than the meaning of artistry itself. Personally, the reason that the word of ‘Pop Culture’ derived from is, the popular culture is suddenly occurring rather than gradually slowly occurring. When i got the topic of the popular culture, I have thought about Popular Art too, which means that the typical artists of the pop art, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Keith Haring were the first thought from the popular culture.

The definition of ‘Pop (Popular) Culture’ is a culture that is passed through the mass media, and it means simply for the entertainment of the general public cartoon. It has been called in two words that referred to the popular culture in the English language as ‘mass culture’ and ‘popular culture’.  However, these two words have significant differences. ‘Mass culture’ since the mass production of cultural phenomena that are understood to be referring to the western modern society established quite derogatory or have critical implications. Whereas, if it calls ‘popular culture’, it means  culture has been prevalent for much longer in the ordinary public, and also  it includes value-neutral and positive evaluation. These two terms represent two different representative perspectives in Western. It often signifies pessimistic and optimistic theoretical positions. At this time, these opposing positions eventually emerged the background of modern pop culture, and are premise in its own value judgments about modern capitalism and popular social.
